Questions homeowners ask first

Is the blower door test free?
No. It is a paid visit, and the fee is written in your booking before we come. If you hire us, it comes off the contract.
How long does the test take?
A morning for most houses.
Will the test damage anything?
No. It changes the air pressure in the house about as much as a strong wind.
Do I have to hire you after the report?
No. It is yours.
Is my house built before 1978?
Paint in older homes can contain lead. EPA's rule covers paid work that disturbs painted surfaces in those homes. Tell us the year when you book; our certificate is listed on the certificate and insurance page.
What do you do about moisture?
We check for it before closing anything up. If the house has a water problem, it is fixed first.
Do I need a permit?
For air sealing and insulation, usually not. Windows, chimneys, wiring and gas can. We tell you which.
Is it safe to seal up a house with a furnace?
Yes, with a combustion safety check before and after, which is part of every job.
Do you do heat pumps?
We make the house ready and write what the system has to do. A licensed installer sizes and installs it.
What about rebates?
Your electric utility and the state's efficiency programs have offered incentives. They change, so ask us for the current list.
Who is in my house?
A lead you've met, and one or two people from the crew, the same people each day.
What do you not do?
Heat pump sales, waterproofing, kitchens and additions. We tell you who we'd call.
